From a Cornish Farm to Climate Action
Restord began as a simple idea on a family farm in Cornwall, to turn local waste into something that restores the land and locks away carbon. What started as an experiment has become a working model for carbon removal that stays local, traceable, and grounded in science.
Milestones Along the Way
Each stage has shaped how we think about local carbon removal, from the first podcast recording to verified biochar credits in Cornish soil.
Grounded Podcast Launches
Grounded documents our journey building a biochar project from the ground up, showing the real process of climate work. Supported by the CO2RE Future Leaders Network.
Community Crowdfunding
A Cornwall Council match-funded campaign helped us secure our first pyrolysis unit from CapChar, moving the idea from plan to pilot.
First Partnership
Bennetts Associates became our first customer, pre-purchasing 50 tonnes of carbon removal, creating a model for transparent, verified delivery.
Pilot Project Live
Our first pyrolysis unit, nicknamed "Ashley Coal," began operation on the farm. Each batch of biochar is tested, recorded, and stored on site for traceable impact.
Grounded Wins Gold
Our Grounded podcast received Gold at the 2024 Signal Awards in Environment and Sustainability, highlighting the importance of open storytelling in climate work.
BBC Feature and Local Partnerships
Our work was featured on BBC Panorama's "Can Scientists Save The Planet?" alongside CapChar. We also began a feedstock partnership with Cormac to turn waste biomass into a climate resource.
First Carbon Credits Delivered
We issued and retired our first verified Biochar Carbon Units, removing 8.6 tonnes of CO₂ stored in Cornish soil for Bennetts Associates.
Field Trials Complete
Working with University of Plymouth researcher Ewan Swan, we ran field trials at two Cornish farms testing biochar's impact on crop growth and water quality. Results showed improved lettuce yields at 2–4% application rates and a 25% reduction in phosphate runoff.

With our proof of concept in place, we are expanding production with new sites and exploring new biochar uses, while keeping everything rooted in soil and community.
Be Part of the Story
