A simple solution to a big problem
Here’s the thing…Alongside decarbonisation, we need to remove 10 billion tonnes of CO₂/year by 2050 to stay below 1.5C of warming.
The UK currently has a handful of carbon removal (CDR) projects removing just 1,000s tonnes a year… The Climate Change Committee estimates the UK will need 5 million tonnes CO₂/year by 2030, rising to 23 million tonnes CO₂/year by 2035. That’s a 23,000x increase in 11 years.
Farmers also face challenges, from more extreme weather events to the overhauling of traditional farming subsidies. They need to transition to more sustainable farming practices.
What do we believe can tackle both these problems?
Biochar. Biochar serves as a CDR method by sequestering carbon from organic matter through pyrolysis. This process not only captures carbon but applied to soils, enhances soil health, making it more resilient.
By integrating biochar into farming practices, we’re providing a solution that aligns with the UK's new farming subsidy scheme - SFI. A win for farmers.
We’re launching our farm-scale 100 tonne CO₂/year pilot project in Cornwall in July 2024, and we’ve decided to document our journey through a podcast(!)
Join us as we share our story, from conception to implementation, and together, let's make a difference to our climate and the way we farm.
